Hot African Vacation

Escape From the Cold Weather with a Hot African Vacation!

If you’re seeing snow and feeling cold in your host country, then you definitely have our sympathy — it’s never easy to deal with the cold months of the year. However, if you know that you have some vacation time coming up, you might want to think about places to go that could help you break out of your cold wintry shell and into somewhere tropical and pleasing. Believe it or not, you can actually escape from the cold weather with a hot African vacation!

Of course, you will need to think about where in Africa that you want to go. Africa is a continent filled with many different countries, and many travelers often get this wrong when they’re trying to look for the best place to go within Africa to begin with.

You might think that Africa has nothing to offer, especially considering that there aren’t as many guides for Africa as there are for other parts of the world. Many people also worry that the civil wars and unrest within African nations make it a place to avoid on the whole. The reality is that there are many parts of Africa that are actually quite safe — for example, many people go down to Morocco quite often with no troubles, and they enjoy the best of African as well as Arabic culture just about any time they wish.

Even if you have chosen the country that you want to check out, you will need to think about how you want to actually set up your trip. For example, you might want to go with a nice African cruise. This gives you the ability to see certain parts of Africa without feeling like you’re completely on your own. Instead of going out on your own you will be with a group — this also gives you a built in social group that can help you build memories that will truly last for a lifetime.

There’s no reason why you can’t start out with the cruise style first, and then go for a land-based trip when you’re feeling more confident. Many people start with cruises because they’re a very luxurious way to see Africa, and the shocking news is that they are quite affordable as well.

So, if you’re tired of cold weather where you live, travel to Africa for a hot vacation — in more ways than one!

Great African Vacation

Taking Your Children on a Great African Vacation

Every parent wants their child to see the world, but that doesn’t meant hat you will always have the opportunity to do this for your child. So, when you actually do get the opportunity to travel abroad, it’s a good idea to go ahead and take the opportunity. Who knows — you may not ever have that chance again.

If you travel with children, you need to think about where you actually want to take your children. Children tend to be very curious, so it doesn’t hurt to expose them to a new culture and get them the education that they need to get ahead in life. Being tolerant of different people and cultures is something that really does come in handy when you’re trying to get a job or even to just build connections that will open doors later in life.

If you aren’t sure where you should go, you might want to think about going to an African country. Contrary to poplar belief, the countries in Africa are indeed safe on the world. Why wouldn’t they be open to travelers? If you think bout it from the right perspective, you’ll see that there are numerous companies and even full scale governments that are working together to make each African nation as safe as possible. There are some countries within Africa that are almost completely dependent on foreign tourism to survive. This means that if they want their people to be taken care of and protected, those tourism dollars are truly worth their weight in gold.

So as you plan your African vacation, you can rest easy knowing that you aren’t going to have to worry about sending your children somewhere that they won’t be safe.

Building the perfect vacation that will delight your children is just a matter of following certain steps. For example, the last thing that you want to do is travel to an African country and end up staying in your hotel room all day. You should feel comfortable walking around the numerous shops and looking at the many different examples of culture, art, and entertainment.

Your children will definitely have questions, so packing along a guidebook is a good idea. Don’t be afraid to answer their questions, or go on a guided tour where a local person can answer their questions better. If you and your kids approach this vacation from the right direction, there’s really no limit to all of the fun that you’ll have!

It’s not something that you’re forced to do, but it’s always best to remember that you are a guest in the country and therefore you must make sure that you’re not stepping on some silent social norms that shouldn’t be stepped on.

If you’re not sure where to travel, you have access to the information you need simply by going online. The biggest thing that you can do is get a good idea of what other people have experienced. After all, it’s one thing to read about it, but it’s another thing to actually have experienced it. There’s nothing wrong with going online to a travel forum filled with people that have actually traveled to the African country that you have in mind. Remember that Africa is a collection of different countries, which just means that you will have to thin about each country separately. People online have no problem telling you where to go in Africa, as well as where to avoid.

Naturally, at the end of the day it’s always your decision on where you will ultimately go in Africa. If you know that you need to take some time to think about where you want to end up, do so! There’s nothing that says this has to be a trip that requires last minute departures and other hassles.

So, when you’re ready to travel in Africa, you owe it to yourself to do a little more digging on safe places to travel in Africa — get started today!

Nairobi National Park

Visiting Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National park is the only natural game reserve which is actually located within a city. The location is fantastic because it means that you can stay in the city and then easily get to the park for day trips.

You have all the amenities of the city near by which could be a big plus for some people who like luxury. It does not match the big game parks such as Serengeto or Mara in its size but it can be a great way to see what it is like, without fully committing to a big journey and a long stay there.

The terrain is rough and natural and so you will be taken around in a jeep, van or truck which has four wheel drive although you can use a saloon should you wish to but it could be quite a tricky drive. If you do want to drive yourself around then there are car hire companies who will rent out vans that are more suitable for the trip. Despite its close proximity to a city, it does have a lot to offer. There are a selection of different environments such as a river and forest nearby, open grass plains and various other types of vegetation.

There are also some man-made dams in the park which encourage certain birds and other animals. There is an impressive array of animals including black rhino, leopard, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, lion, elands, hyena and leopard and many types of birds. There are also other things to discover such as the Nairobi walking safari, hippo pools and orphanage. With it being such as easy place to reach and  having the rare black rhino then there are many reasons why this is a great place to visit. It is worth timing your visit right though because it is wet between April and October and very warm between July and October.

Preparing for your African Adventure

So you have your holiday to Africa booked and all your checklist ticked off. Safaris, mountain climbing and floating down the River Nile may be on the top of your to-do list and with your bag packed, important jabs sorted and flights and accommodation booked months in advance, surely there isn’t anything else to do now but sit back, relax and wait until your day of departure.

However, there is always that niggling feeling that you may have forgotten something. Don’t let pre-booking your airport parking be one of those things. With regards to your African holiday, you are more than likely going to be travelling for a fortnight if not longer, so arriving at the airport without a car parking space booked could seriously burn a hole in your holiday budget.

With plenty of options to choose from, including long stay, meet and greet and valet parking, there will be something to suit your needs when you arrive at the airport, and by pre-booking a space prior to your flight you could potentially save up to 60% on gate rates leaving you more money to splash on ‘rainbow cuisine’, also known as traditional South African food.

There are an abundance of companies offering great deals for you airport parking, so before jet setting, take a quick look on a comparison site to see where the lowest prices lie. UK airport parking company, Airparks, offer spaces at twenty three locations in the UK including Stansted, Gatwick and Cardiff to name a few.

Car parks are often located a short distance away from the airport so transfer buses are normally included in the discount, however if you are willing to pay a little extra, on site long term parking is just a stones throw away from the terminal.

With these options in mind, if you are lucky enough to be heading to Africa anytime soon, get your space booked as soon as possible so you have longer practise the languages of Nilo-Saharan or Khoe spoken in Southeast Africa and Botswana.

African Holiday

Things to do on an African Holiday

Many people just associate Africa either with safaris or with the beaches of Lanzarote. However, there is far more to this huge continent than that.

The good thing about it being so big is that there is such a massive amount of things that you can choose to do. However, there is no way that you will be able to fit it all in during your trip. Just a few of the things you could do are hiking up mountains, diving in the Red Sea, visiting the pyramids in Egypt, trekking across the countryside or visiting ancient civilisations.

It is therefore important to think hard before you travel about the sorts of things you would like to spend your time doing when you are on your holiday. It is very likely that you will be able to do anything that you like, but you may find that if you have diverse tastes you may not be able to do it all in one location.

It is a good idea to make sure that there is something to suit each family member in the location that you choose and also worth considering that you could change location part of the way through your holiday by perhaps taking a flight across the continent or a bus. Of course you could always visit another time as there will be far too much to explore in one holiday but as long as you pack as much as you can in to the time that you have, you will be able to be satisfied that you have had good value for money. Many areas are famous tourist locations and these will have more accommodation and better facilities for the tourist. They are likely to have shops, leisure and sporting activities as well as restaurants and night life.

However, if you stay somewhere more remote, you will get a better idea of local culture and customs but you are less likely to have so many facilities aimed at tourists in the area.

Getting Around in Africa

Getting Around in Africa

As Africa is such a huge continent is is likely that you will want to take advantage and see quite a lot of it while you are there. Depending on where you start with you should have quite a few travel options.

The first and main option if you want to travel a big distance is to flu. There are three main airlines which serve the continent, providing internal flights and there are also smaller companies as well. Some of the smaller companies may not have very high safety standards and so it is worth doing some research before you consider whether to fly with them or not.

It tends to be smaller ones which operate in countries which may lack political stability or have not been stable for long. You can choose to travel by car but rental can work out more expensive than paying for a taxi. In monsoon season the roads can be flooded and in the dry season the roads can be slow. Outside of the main towns there are a lot of accidents because the speed limits are high and there is a lot of wildlife wandering on to the roads.

Bus is a very common way to travel for everyone, including tourists. There are many bus services but the bus types can vary between countries. Many people choose to travel by thumb, where they will ask a car driver to give them a lift but they will be expected to pay for the privilege. It should only be something done in safe areas.

Some people choose to rough it a bit and travel by overland trucks. It is a slow way to travel and you will stay in tents and you will have to take a turn at cooking. This is the type of tour that some people love and others hate. Some people choose to travel by train but most countries do not have good rail road services with the exception of Egypt and South Africa. If where you are visiting has a river then it is likely that there will be a boat that you can travel on.

Travelling in Africa

Weather When Travelling in Africa

It is always a good idea to be aware of the climate in a county before you travel there. You will then know exactly what to pack in your case.

With Africa being such an enormous continent then there van be quite different climates depending on where you decide to stay. The continent is pretty much on the equator and therefore you should expect most of it to be pretty hot. Obviously it will be dependent on the time of year that you visit. Some of the northern locations such as the Mediterranean coast and Northern Morocco as well as South Africa tends to be on the cooler side with temperatures ranging from ten degrees to the mid thirties.

Places which tend to be right on the equator such as Mauritius and Cape Verde will be between fifteen and thirty five during the year, so always pleasant. The desert regions such as the Horn of Africa and Sahel will be even hotter which can be over forty degrees and even over fifty in the Sahara, however they can drop to fifteen degrees at night because of the fact that sand does not retain heat. This means that although if you are staying in the hotter regions you will want to pack cool clothes or light cover up garments to stop the sun burning, you may need something a bit warmer for night time if you are in desert regions.

There are some areas where you will need to wrap up warm all of the time though. Some of the mountains and higher areas such as the Atlas Mountains or Lesotho as well as the top of Mount Kilimanjaro with often get snow in the winter and therefore you will need to take winter clothes. There are also some peaks which will require you to wear a jacket to keep warm, these are places such as the Canary Islands, Mount Cameroon and the Reunion.

Another main weather factor is the monsoon season which can change form country to country and you will need to be aware of the fact that there are often local floods making roads impassable and so if you are visiting between March or June then make sure that you check when it is in the country you plan to visit.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro

If you are travelling in Tanzania in Africa then it is well worth visiting Mount Kilimanjaro. It is a volcano but as it is currently inactive it is safe to go and visit it.

It stands at 19,340 feet above sea level and is therefore extremely impressive. It is a fairly easy mountain to climb which is why it attracts many climbers and trekkers. What makes it look so impressive is that it is often snow capped despite the fact that it looks over the plains of the savannah. Sadly the snowy peaks are not so common as they once were.

If you do not want to climb right to the top, there are a selection of low peaks which can be reached more easily. Due to the height of the mountain it boasts a massive selection of plants and animals. The base is warm with bushland and the top is icy and cold. In between there are tropical rain forests, evergreen forests, alpine desert regions and moorlands.

This means that even if you do not want to climb the mountain at all, there is still plenty to look at. However, the climb probably only takes a few days and you will see so much of a contrast in plant life that it can be quite amazing. If you do choose to climb then you will need to have a licensed guide with you and you will need to pay entry to the park. You will also need to have enough money to pay tips to the guide and the porters and cooks who will climb with you and you will have to pay for camping or huts.

There are six different routes that you an take and each takes between five and seven days. You will need to choose which one you want to do, some are prettier, some are more remote and they take in different sides of the mountain.
